ACIC IIT (ISM) Foundation Partners with Rakta Sanjeevani to Deploy Master Trainers in Bamboo Handicrafts

Assam’s indigenous bamboo craft traditions represent centuries of sustainable craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and untapped rural enterprise potential. In a major institutional recognition of local artisanal expertise, ACIC IIT (ISM) Foundation—the Atal Community Innovation Centre established at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad—has formally issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to collaborate with Rakta Sanjeevani for deploying master trainers in bamboo handicrafts.

Under this strategic engagement, four (04) qualified master trainers developed and nurtured through Rakta Sanjeevani’s artisan clusters will be engaged for a duration of six months to lead comprehensive bamboo craft training and capacity-building programs across project locations.

Transforming Rural Artisans into Institutional Educators

This collaboration represents a significant leap forward in recognizing traditional artisans not merely as beneficiaries, but as skilled educators, technical experts, and leaders of regional livelihood incubation.

Under the scope of this institutional engagement, Rakta Sanjeevani’s master trainers will undertake:
  • Structured Theoretical & Practical Instruction: Conducting hands-on workshops in bamboo selection, treatment, precise splitting, slicing, and fine weaving techniques.
  • Contemporary Product Design & Diversification: Guiding trainees to expand beyond conventional utility items into high-value lifestyle products, modern bamboo furniture (such as stools and benches), wall clocks, decorative frames, and eco-friendly home accessories.
  • Quality Enhancement & Standardization: Ensuring structural durability, aesthetic refinement, and commercial finish to meet urban retail and export standards.
  • Beneficiary Assessment & Capacity Building: Mentoring rural trainees and women self-help groups to transition from novice learners into self-sustaining handicraft entrepreneurs.
