Celebrating Indigenous Flavors: Traditional Food Stall at Assam University, Silchar

Promoting indigenous heritage goes hand-in-hand with creating sustainable market opportunities for grassroots women entrepreneurs. From December 12 to December 14, 2022, Rakta Sanjeevani, in collaboration with Anisha Foundation, hosted an authentic Traditional Food Stall during the IKS Mela cum Exhibition at Assam University, Silchar.

The initiative was organized to provide rural self-help groups and village organizations an active public platform to display, market, and celebrate indigenous culinary traditions.

Highlights of the Event

  • Showcasing Local Delicacies: The stall featured an array of freshly prepared traditional snacks, warm indigenous savories, packaged local sweets, and home-crafted condiments made by village women.

  • Direct Market Linkage: Enabled rural women producers to interact directly with university faculty, researchers, students, and visitors, gaining first-hand experience in retail sales and customer outreach.

  • Promoting Cultural Heritage: Celebrated the rich, diverse food culture of Assam under the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) festival banner.

  • Empowering Village Collectives: Provided a commercial avenue for rural women to earn supplementary household income while fostering entrepreneurial confidence.
