Protecting local ecosystems and promoting climate awareness begins with active, youth-driven community mobilization. On June 5, 2023, a multi-stakeholder World Environment Day Observance was organized at Cinnamara College and the historic Maniram Dewan Crematorial Ground, Cinnamara, Jorhat.
The initiative was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Jorhat, Cinnamara College NSS Unit, Alumni Association Cinnamara College, and Cinnamara Tea Estate, in active collaboration with Rakta Sanjeevani, Titabar. The drive was further supported by the Student Union, Eco Club, Green Thinkerz, and the Department of Geography, Cinnamara College.
Highlights of the Event
Sapling Plantation Drive: Dignitaries, faculty, police personnel, volunteers, and students joined hands to plant native saplings around the grounds, reinforcing our commitment to biodiversity conservation.
Environmental Awareness Session: Speakers addressed the student body on environmental stewardship, the significance of combating plastic pollution, and the responsibilities outlined under the global G20 sustainability agenda.
Youth & Community Mobilization: National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, college youth groups, and local community members actively participated in cleaning and greening the designated heritage site.
Heritage & Ecology Connection: Conducting the drive at the Maniram Dewan Crematorial Ground underscored the vital link between preserving cultural landmarks and maintaining ecological surroundings.
