Showcasing Assam’s Heritage to the World: Rakta Sanjeevani Collaborates on National GI Documentary

We are immensely proud to share that Rakta Sanjeevani is playing a pivotal role in an exciting national initiative to document and amplify India’s rich heritage of Geographical Indications (GI).

Spearheaded by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, a comprehensive documentary series is currently being filmed across Assam. The project aims to capture the essence of our state’s esteemed GI-tagged products, the traditional, generations-old production processes behind them, and the dedicated local artisans and farming ecosystems that keep these traditions alive.

Our Role on the Ground

As an organization deeply embedded in grassroots livelihood promotion, Rakta Sanjeevani has been officially authorized to act as the local facilitator for the production crew.

Our team has been on the ground, serving as the crucial bridge between the documentary filmmakers and the local communities. From navigating remote weaver clusters to coordinating with agricultural sites and manufacturing units, we are ensuring that the filmmakers gain authentic, seamless access to the heart of Assam’s GI ecosystems.

Progress So Far

The energy on the field has been incredible. We are thrilled to report that our team has successfully facilitated the fieldwork and local coordination for 7 iconic GI products so far!

The ongoing filming schedule covers a diverse and beautiful range of Assam’s registered Geographical Indications, including:

  • Muga Silk of Assam

  • Assam (Orthodox) Tea

  • Assam Karbi Anglong Ginger

  • Tezpur Litchi

  • Joha Rice & Chokuwa Rice of Assam

  • Boka Chaul (Mud Rice)

  • Assam Gamosa

  • Judima (Traditional Rice Wine)

  • Bodo Eri Silk

Empowering Artisans Through Visibility

For Rakta Sanjeevani, this is about more than just logistics. Whether it is a handloom weaver meticulously crafting an Assam Gamosa or a farmer tending to Karbi Anglong Ginger, our rural communities possess immense skill and knowledge. By providing the necessary cultural context, translation, and ground-level insights to the production crew, we are helping ensure that Assam’s GI heritage is represented accurately and beautifully on a global platform. We believe that showcasing these stories will not only preserve our cultural identity but also drive commercial awareness and better livelihoods for our local artisans and entrepreneurs.
